Milenko Katic

Milenko was born in Serbia and grew up in Belgrade. As a young man, he studied medicine for three years until he discovered his love for art. He stopped medical school and took classes at drawing and painting school with art professor Sergije Jovanovic’. His early work from seventies and eighties are in surrealistic style influenced by Magritte and Dali. In 1979 he joined Painting School of Machva with painter Milic’ de Machva and started group and solo exhibitions.

In 1984 he moved from Belgrade (Serbia) to Dubrovnik (Croatia) and opened Milenko Art Studio. He work and exhibited in Croatia until 1989.  When problems of splitting Yugoslavia erupted, he moved to the US in Charlottesville, VA. He learned English and started selling his work at galleries and arts shows in Virginia.

Today his studio is in Afton, VA twenty miles west of Charlottesville, VA in beautiful Nelson County on the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. His work is mixed media on canvas and board which includes acrylic, charcoal, conte’ crayon, his drawings on paper, found objects and paper.
