C’ville Arts Features – “Fall Magic: Color, Form, Pattern and Design” - During October

Charlottesville, VA, September 23rd, 2022

Judith N. Ligon and Floyd “Pete” E. Johnson are co-featured artists for the month of October. They will be at the gallery during the historic downtown malls’ First Friday event on October 7, from 5 till 7 p.m. to share their latest collection of work and magic.

Judith, a multi-media artist, is inspired by nature with its color, form, patterns and designs as well as by childhood experiences growing up in Europe. During her years as an artist or artisan, she has been creating in various mediums such as drawing, painting, photography, enamels and mixed metals, earthenware clay or stoneware clay, polymer clay, mixed media, wood, paper, fiber and more. So, in this particular show one shall find works created by her in any of these media from wearable art to 2-D works. For Ligon, creating art is a way of life, sharing, inspiring and healing. Human beings thrive on the self-expression of color, form, pattern and design.

Floyd “Pete”, a retired engineer, adventurer and world traveler, entrepreneur, race car driver, etc., has been creating with wood as a furniture designer/maker, house designer/builder and wood turner ever since he returned to living on land after a life at sea. Inspired by nature’s varieties of wood, he shall be exhibiting new forms and designs made from different woods. Pete enjoys allowing wood to speak for itself - whether it is native wood of North America or elsewhere with its different colors, grains, patterns and textures. As a living resource, trees with their beauty and life-giving properties, have long been part of our world’s everyday lives and it is a privilege to reveal their individual stories whether they are transformed into utilitarian pieces or works of art.
