C’ville Arts Features – “Fresh Eyes” - During August
C’ville Arts features our talented plein air painter, Barbara Albert during the month of August. Plein air painting, is the act of painting outdoors. This method contrasts with studio painting or academic rules that might create a predetermined look. She builds the illusion of space and form by utilizing color, brush strokes, and textures. Her dedication to exploring light and depth within each landscape using her painterly style is uncommon and delightful.
This is how Barbara describes her approach to a creative journey:
I take my inspiration from a statement by Marcel Proust.
“The true journey of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having fresh eyes.”
I return to the same beautiful places year after year to paint them and share their special beauty to the world. There is always something new and I am grateful to live here in central Virginia with all the lovely barns and mountains. I work in the open air, placing my easel by the roadside. I endure the weather, the insects, and the inevitable fatigue — but all is forgotten in the adventure of seeing the scene come to life on canvas.
I hope you recognize familiar scenes just as I hope your response to my renderings is a happy one. I paint to share joy in our physical world. I hope to bring these paintings to you with fresh eyes.
