Creator and owner of Felt Song Fiber, Janice Stegall-Seibert, a distinguished and talented felt making artist brings her musical, heartfelt imagination to C’ville Arts during the month of October. She will be at the gallery during the Historic Downtown Mall’s First Friday celebration on October 1st, from 5 – 7 p.m. to share her whimsical new work.
Janice has been felting from the heart for over 30 years. The need to create and express herself has been a driving force that motivates this self-taught fiber artist and therapeutic musician. The rhythms of nature and her music are influential forces that are entwined during her creative process. She plays the songs in her heart as she builds each piece often humming her favorite tunes as she wanders with her wool in a world of her own, a place full of magic.
She uses two different felting techniques and only the highest quality materials. One process is wet felting which involves adding warm soapy water and friction to layers of wool which forms felt fabric. Using this process Janice creates wall pieces, purses, bags and hats. The other method used is a relatively new art form called needle felting. It is essentially sculpting wool with a special barbed needle making Santas, angels, fairies and gnomes, flower brooches as well as magic wands and other charming creations. Some unique pieces are a combination of the two techniques.
In this collection, Janice brings to life her one-of-a-kind imagination by painting and sculpting with wool in her original compositions. Her audience can dance with their eyes through the rhythms of her work infused with a sense of joy and magic.
Come see the show and listen, “Music for the Eyes” will sing the songs of your heart too.
